From where you live to your financial circumstances, you should expect to make a variety of high-level changes in the immediate future.Post-divorce, you’re expected to abide by the terms and conditions of any and all divorce orders. However, as time goes by, you may come to find that a post-divorce modification is necessary. Unfortunately, you can’t make this change without the intervention of the course. Here are some of the many types of modifications that could come into play:Alimony modification: Also known as spousal support, this is a financial obligation that one person owes the other. For example, you may have to pay alimony to your ex-spouse as they stayed home to raise your children while you were married. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re entitled to payments for the rest of your life. You may be able to seek a modification in the future, such as if your ex becomes financially independent.Child support modification: You don’t mind making child support payments to your ex-spouse, as you want your children to have the financial means necessary to live their best life. If your financial circumstances change, such as the result of a job loss or serious illness, you may need to request a child support modification.Child custody and visitation modifications: This is often a sticking point in many divorces. You created a parenting plan and visitation schedule, but that doesn’t mean it can remain the same until your children reach the age of 18. Things change over time, such as your children getting involved with extracurricular activities or your ex finding trouble with the law. If your child custody order, parenting plan or visitation schedule is no longer working for you and/or your children, look into requesting a modification. These are among the most common types of post-divorce modifications. If you ever find yourself facing a complications related to one of the above, look into your ability to request and hopefully receive a modification from the court. When you know your legal rights and how to protect them, you may be able to obtain a modification that will improve your life.About the AuthorLatest PostsAlward FisherAt Alward Fisher, we provide more than savvy legal representation.
