About Anca I. Pop

Anca Pop practices in the areas of family law, criminal defense, appeals, and civil, commercial, real estate and business litigation. Anca has over 16 years’ experience in litigation and appellate work.

Anca is a former federal prosecutor. She served for 13 years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan and the District of Arizona handling complex criminal investigations and prosecutions of a wide range of federal criminal cases involving: white-collar crime, including bank, mail/wire, securities, federal programs, Social Security benefits, tax, and healthcare fraud; false claims; identity theft; theft of government money; bribery; money laundering; narcotics trafficking; firearms; child pornography; intellectual property; domestic terrorism; criminal threats; robbery; violent crimes; immigration; humans smuggling; forfeiture; extradition; and mutual legal assistance requests, working with various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Anca handled federal criminal cases at every stage—from investigation to criminal charges, grand jury practice, motion litigation, trial, sentencing, appeal and post-conviction relief petitions. She litigated several jury trials and briefed and argued numerous federal appeals.

Anca also served, both nationally and internationally, as a Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney Advisor. As Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney Advisor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, she provided legal advice on matters relating to intellectual property and cyber-enabled crimes, and the collection of electronic evidence; trained prosecutors and law enforcement officers; and conducted public and industry outreach and awareness activities. Anca also represented the Department of Justice as a diplomat and legal advisor at U.S. Embassies in numerous countries in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe and Central Asia while working for the Department of Justice’s Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance, and Training. She had the opportunity to work closely with U.S. Embassies, international and US-based law enforcement agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, the private industry, multiple other stakeholders, and persons from diverse cultures and backgrounds. She represented the Department of Justice in various interagency meetings, conferences, speaking engagements, committees, groups, and task forces. Anca assisted prosecutors, judges, law enforcement officers and other justice sector officials to improve their countries’ ability to effectively investigate and prosecute intellectual property, cyber and cyber-enabled crime, and utilize electronic evidence to combat transnational crime, and provided expert assistance in support of U.S. Government intellectual property and computer crime policies and initiatives in the region.

Before serving as a federal prosecutor, Anca worked on a wide variety of complex legal issues involving civil, constitutional and criminal law, while employed with the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. Anca served as a judicial clerk for Justice Stephen Markman at the Michigan Supreme Court for over two years, where she developed excellent research and writing skills and an astute ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and communicate complex legal matters, while working on published orders and opinions and amendments to various rules. As a Prehearing Attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals, Anca reviewed a high volume of briefs and transcripts, conducted legal research, drafted research reports and proposed opinions for Court of Appeals judges in a wide variety of criminal and civil cases.
